If you see any broken links, or would like to suggest a resource for us to add, please let us know.

The Elements of Style
Strunk and White's The Elements of Style is hands-down the most important guide to English writing. It is brief and practical, and every lesson inside will teach you how to easily write essays with flare. You can buy it on Amazon or in a used bookstore for under $10.
MLA Style
The MLA Style is the official format of choice for academic essay writing. Knowing even the MLA formatting basics will help your resume become instantly polished and professional. You can read the Frequently Asked Questions about the MLA, or you could buy a handbook on Amazon or even at a used bookstore where a recent edition could be had for under $10. This is a resource you will need in College English classes, so why not get a head start?
The Online Writing Lab (OWL) at Purdue
The OWL is an amazing and thorough online resource that breaks down everything about essay writing, including how to prewrite (and why you should!), conduct research, create an effective thesis, develop paragraphs and transitions, and edit an essay. If you don't know where to begin, the best place to start is the main page for students in grades 7-12.
Grammar Basics
Sometimes you need a refresher or to look up a specific grammatical rule. Visit this glossary to learn various rules that can help you not only with essay writing, but also the standardized tests such as the SAT and ACT.
Essay Builder
The Writing Den provides a simple website useful for those who don't have a lot of time, but need to cover some of the basics of essay writing. We highly recommend the OWL for in-depth essay techniques, but if you have an upcoming deadline and only need some small pointers, give this site a try.
