High School Placement Test (HSPT)

The High School Placement Test is a standardized test that is used by some private and Catholic schools as part of their admissions process for eighth graders entering the ninth grade. The HSPT is used exclusively for entrance into 9-12 high schools and is usually administered once a year. The HSPT consist of 5 multiple choice sections: verbal, quantitative, reading, math, and language. The HSPT is approximately 140 minutes in length, but may vary from school to school. HSPT scores are reported on a scale of 200 to 800.


Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE)

The Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE) is designed to measure your reading comprehension, verbal reasoning, and math skills in the subject area. The ISEE is administered by many private schools as part of their screening process. All levels of the exam consist of multiple choice questions and an essay. The essay is not scored but instead sent to the receiving school. The ISEE is 160 minutes long. Scores are reported for each subject on a range of 800 to 950 and cannot be compared from the Lower, Middle, and Upper Level exams.


Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS)

The Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills is an assessment test given to Texas students in public primary and secondary schools. The TAKS is designed to measure the student’s comprehension and skills acquired in reading, math, social studies, writing and science in accordance with the Texas educational standards. The TAKS test does not apply to students in private or home schools, as they are exempt from the test. All students must pass the TAKS test in English (ELA), science, math and social studies before they can graduate from a public high school in Texas. Students in junior and senior high school have five opportunities to take and pass the test.


Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT)

Secondary School Admission or SSAT is a Test is used by many private schools as part of their admissions and placement process. The SSAT consists of four multiple-choice sections: verbal, reading comprehension, and (2) quantitative math sections. Included in the SSAT is an essay that is not scored, but instead is sent to the receiving schools. There are two levels of the SSAT: the Lower level is used for students enrolled in grades 5 through 7, and the upper Level for students enrolled in grades 8 through 11. Each test has respective scale scores, and blank answers have no effect on your score. The SSAT is 155 minutes long.
